MDconnectME’s mobile application reduces stress for operating room staff — improves patient-family experience and overall satisfaction
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 12, 2012
Your child is scheduled for surgery today and you are sitting in the patient holding area nervously awaiting the procedure to begin. Anxiety mounts. The Surgeon walks in to help to diffuse the tenuous moments – then asks if you and your loved ones can receive email or text. He explains a new service called MDconnectME, which allows a patient (or in this case Mom or Dad) to direct one-way updates to a short list of family and friends. After parent accepts the invitation by filling out desired family and close friend contact information, the surgeon and/or non-scrubbed operating room staff are now able to send instantaneous updates from the O.R. The days of waiting in a hospital waiting room anxiously for any communication from the OR are over.
30 minutes later, Grandma Barbara in Boston sees the first MDconnectME text message update on her iPhone – while Uncle Louis in Los Angeles sees an email update on his Motorola Tablet: “Rachel’s procedure is expected to last approximately 7 hours”
3 hours later, “Rachel’s procedure is going well as planned.”
2 hours later, Mom is in the cafeteria and gets a message “Surgery went well and is close to finishing. Please meet Dr. in front of the recovery area in 30 minutes.”
According to Dr. Peter Taub, Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, “MDconnectME is a revolutionary tool for communicating with parents in the hospital and with families around the world. The parents of my patients welcome the idea of getting real time information from the operating room.”
MDconnectME (recently featured by The New York Times) is a patient-initiated mobile application for healthcare staff, patients, and their close contacts, which enhances the overall efficiency and quality of care. The company's pilot program launched in the fall of 2011 and has since played a role in hundreds of surgical procedures including those at top US News and World Reports Hospital like UCLA Medical Center, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. MDconnectME updates have been sent all over the world, safely and with 98% user satisfaction to date. As one Mom states, “When my son was in surgery this service decreased my anxiety tremendously. We are so grateful that his surgeon recommended MDconnectME.”
Dr. Reza Jarrahy, Pediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, UCLA Medical Center says: “MDconnectME has truly changed the way I communicate with my patients and their families. The ability to keep my patients’ family members involved in their care, especially when they are unable to be physically present in the hospital, enables me to help maintain my patients’ extended support networks.”
“More than ever, hospitals are competing to provide the highest level of care,” comments Scott Anzel, CEO/President and Co-founder, “By creating a safe harbor of communication for the patient’s entire care team, MDconnectME increases the communication from the provider side while reducing their stress. For patients and family, anxiety levels drop for what becomes a more reassuring experience. In other words, facilities will expect to see a nice boost to patient-family satisfaction scores.”
MDconnectME’s patent-filed communication platform has been designed as a HIPAA/HITECH-sensitive, patient-centered, cloud-based, and easy-to-use mobile tool for healthcare professionals, patients, and loved ones.
