Jodi Rowlands, who used to be very sporty and had a passion for karate describes how electronic cigarettes saved her life. Jodi says, “I started smoking when I went to college and not being able to do karate any more due to a damaged ligament, I thought why not get addicted to smoking.

I used to smoke 15-20 normal cigarettes a day and enjoyed smoking. Even after having 13 operations on my knee the wound not healing. In the space of just three months I had four further operations.

The surgeons told me because of what I’d gone through, they would not even consider operating if I still smoked. So clearly, I got a good enough reason as any to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes and start vaping instead.”

“And I am very pleased to say I am still smoke free and just vape instead. My leg is nearly healed now,” Jodi added.

One of the most significant researches conducted on the effects of e cigarette was headed by Ricardo Polosa, from the Center of Smoking and Prevention and Cure in Catania, Italy.

The test was carried out on 40 regular smokers who despite of may attempts were unable to quit smoking. The participants were invited to run through five study visits. Various tests and measures were taken on week-4, week-8, week-12 and week-24, and product use, number of cigarettes smoked, and exhaled carbon monoxide (eCO) levels at each visit. The participants were all healthy and heavy smokers consuming over 15 cigarettes per day and had been smoking for the past 10 years and had no intention of quitting smoking in the next 30 days.

Each participant was provided a free electronic cigarette kit with two rechargeable batteries and taught hoe to refill the cartridges. They were instructed to use the e cigarettes freely and up to four cartridges per day.

At the end of the study after 24 weeks, an average 80% of reduction in the number of cigarettes was observed. Out of the 40 smokers included in the test, 13 sustained 50% reduction in the e cigs vaping. It became pretty evident that smokeless cigarettes did help quit smoking. Out of the 40 participants, 6 could be classified as sustained heavy reducers (at least 80% reduction in the number of cigarettes/day).

There were also 9 quitters, 6 of which were still using the e-cigarette at the end of week 24. These findings are even more impressive when you consider none of the participants was willing to quit cigarettes when the test began.

Justin King who had been smoking real tobacco cigarettes for more than 18 years says that vapor cigarettes helped save his life. "I wasn't feeling good," he said. "I was overweight; I was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day and I think vapor cigarettes saved my life."
