Everblue announced its new and upcoming courses for Fall 2012, which includes a variety of new content areas designed to address the growing demand for sustainability training.
A number of new courses will be available through Everblue between now and late Fall 2012. The “green economy” is growing and creating a strong demand for new, exciting courses. Interested students and sustainability professionals can find these new courses as they become available at Everblue.
New Courses: Available NOW
The North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification course, currently available at Everblue, focuses on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) to train professionals to correctly service and install products.
The HVAC training course offers three different sections through Everblue: NATE Core Service Training, Air-to-Air Heat Pump Specialty Certification, and Gas Heating (Air) Specialty Certification.
Students can become NATE Certified by passing the NATE Core Service exam along with one other specialty designation. Everblue offers the core and both the Air-to-Air Heat Pump and Gas Heating specialty certifications in one combined course to save time and money for students.
The objectives of the course sequence are to teach general knowledge about HVACR by focusing on proper installation and service. The specialized modules build on the basic knowledge covered in the core section and teach professionals the best ways to service and promote the safety of HVACR products.
NATE certification is well-known among contractors, along with manufacturers and distributors, which gives specialists a competitive edge in the HVACR market. Contractors look to hire NATE certified professionals solely for their expertise gained through the certification process.
ENERGY STAR Version 3, currently available at Everblue, is the updated requirement for the ENERGY STAR program. The course teaches students about the ENERGY STAR label and what it means for a house. It is an additional certification added to the RESNET HERS Rater program. It allows HERS raters to certify a house as ENERGY STAR.
In the course at Everblue, students will learn about thermal enclosure systems, HVAC quality installation, water management, and much more. The main goal of the course is to teach students about energy conservation and how to achieve an ENERGY STAR v3 label for their homes.
The previous ENERGY STAR Version 2 requirements shaped the updates made to ENERGY STAR v3. The new version changed the program path for house construction and raised the energy efficiency rate required for each house by 20 percent, which created a large demand for ENERGY STAR certified homes.
Upcoming Courses: Available Fall 2012
Aquaponics is an environmentally friendly, natural food growing method that cultivates fish and plants together in a recirculating ecosystem. It utilizes natural bacterial cycles to convert fish waste to plant nutrients. The course will cover the basics, such as techniques, installation, water quality, environmental control and much more.
Thermography uses infrared sensitive cameras to diagnose problems in buildings and mechanical systems, such as detecting water leaks, the absence of insulation in walls or overheating components in electrical/mechanical systems.
The course will cover the basic applications regarding inspections to ensure students understand the process, such as checking building envelopes, electrical, and mechanical systems for potential issues. Students will also learn how to confidently work with an infrared camera when performing an inspection.
Energy Auditor is a new joint certification offered by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and its National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). According to the certification handbook, it is designed to train professionals how to evaluate residential properties for “energy efficiency, health and safety of a home and conduct field measurements to identify areas for savings.” Larry Zarker, the CEO of BPI, says that the new certifications will not replace existing certifications but rather build upon them. Everblue’s course will cover the core concepts of each energy auditing standard and teach students how to build on the basic energy audit of a home.
