New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman of The Perecman Firm urges further investigation into the parking garage collapse at Miami-Dade Community College. The accident killed three workers and injured many others.
New York, New York (PRWEB) October 16, 2012
Investigators are slightly closer to determining what caused the collapse of a parking garage at Miami-Dade Community College. Three people died in the construction accident and a fourth worker was missing and feared dead. While it’s still too early to tell exactly what caused the garage to collapse, every piece of information counts, said New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm.
As reported by The Washington Post (10/12/12), the accident happened as construction workers were putting in a spandrel beam. A spandrel beam is an exterior beam that extends from column to column in steel or concrete construction and carries a wall load.
At least eight others were injured when the 5 story garage project collapsed, reported The Post.
"The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 759 construction-work related fatalities occurred in 2011. A significant number of these accidents were attributed to preventable mistakes. By thoroughly investigating the causes of construction accidents and learning from those that occur, we can get closer to the goal of reducing and ultimately eliminating construction related deaths and injuries,” said David Perecman, the chair of the Construction Accident Committee of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and yearly lecturer on construction accident law.
Lawyers at The Perecman Firm investigate the details of construction accidents on behalf of clients who have been injured in a jobsite accident. Their goal is to determine, among other factors, if equipment was maintained properly, whether safety measures were being followed and-or if workers knew about potential hazards. Through the investigation, the lawyers and their clients can learn who should be held accountable.
It is not always easy to determine who is responsible for a construction accident. An experienced attorney with significant staff, experience, and financial resources can immediately launch an investigation into the causes of the accident and help determine which people and companies are responsible
Construction on the $22.5 million construction project began in February and was to be finished in December, said the Post.
