About Independent Financial Group’s Charities
The Challenged Athletes Foundation provides opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The mission of the Junior Blind of America is to provide educational programs and services for visually impaired children and adults. The Mitchell Thorp Foundation supports families whose children suffer from life-threatening illnesses, diseases and disorders. The promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to work to end breast cancer in the United States through research and advocacy.
Since the company’s founding, IFG has awarded over $165,000 in contributions to numerous charities. One of their first charitable donations was made to the Choose Living Foundation; started by record-breaking triathlete and ESPY award winner, Jim MacLaren.
Through this philanthropic relationship, Independent Financial Group maintained an ongoing friendship with MacLaren until his passing in 2010. His vision of supporting disabled athletes through his foundation inspired the athletic community and launched the creation of the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
