BWI turns to AWG, the industry pioneer for truly free airport wireless, following customer requests.

Miami (PRWEB) August 01, 2012

Advanced Wireless Group, LLC (AWG), a leader in design, integration, and operation of large venue public wireless networks, announced today that it has been awarded the wireless Internet services (Wi-Fi) contract for Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) by the airport’s concesssions developer, AIRMALL USA.

As part of the deal, AWG, the largest provider of truly free airport wireless in the U.S., will make its service available to BWI travelers effective immediately. AWG will manage the airport’s Wi-Fi infrastructure for a five-year term, and with demand for free Wi-Fi expected to increase in the coming months, the company has already implemented plans for upgrades to the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to take place during the first year of the contract.

“Availability of a complimentary Wi-Fi option has become an expected amenity for today’s travelers,” said Scott Phillips, President and CEO at AWG. “Whether the users are families on vacation or executives commuting for business, the AIRMALL USA and BWI Marshall teams recognize that the ability to deliver truly free Internet access contributes immensely towards a positive customer impression of the airport.”

Under AWG’s hybrid wireless model, the traveling public who choose to utilize the complimentary wireless service will watch a brief 30-second video prior to accessing 45 minutes of connectivity. A premium, commercial-free experience offering increased speeds and extended time will also be available for a nominal fee. The options provide travelers with the type of connectivity that best matches their personal needs.

“This new, free Wi-Fi service will provide an improved level of convenience for our travelers,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, BWI Marshall Airport Executive Director. “BWI Marshall emphasizes customer service and efficiency for our passengers. The improved wireless amenity will allow travelers to stay connected.”

This announcement comes on the heels of recent news that AWG had been awarded the wireless contract for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Along with LAX and MSP, BWI joins AWG’s current portfolio of fifteen US airports including Boston’s Logan (BOS), Miami International (MIA), and San Francisco (SFO). The majority of AWG’s airports have chosen to implement the hybrid model to best server their travelers.
