Maps Serve as Portal to Thousands of Spooktacular Places and Events

MapMuse today announced the release of its 2012 Halloween Locators, a series of interactive web maps locating stores and events with spooky wares and scares. Instead of bumbling around strip malls like a headless horseman, Halloween shoppers can now find the locations of all nearby Costume Stores, Haunted Houses, and Halloween Festivals and Events with a simple click of their mouse.
“Trying to find seasonal pop-up stores and attractions can be like chasing ghosts” says MapMuse owner Mike Pilon. “Our maps take the frustration out of it by showing you where to go, when to go, and how to get there." The Halloween Locators are packed with data, including contact details, background info, and web links, for every place mapped. Once you find a store, attraction, or event you’d like to visit, you can get driving directions there via Google Maps. (Directions via broomstick will be included in next year’s edition.) After getting sufficiently spooked or shopped out, you’re encouraged to upload photos and reviews of your experience with other users. “Think of each map as a directory, GPS, and review platform all wrapped up neatly, like a, uh, very dapper mummy,” contrives Pilon.
While compiling address and contact data for thousands of events and businesses is a dreadful task, users need not worry that the information they’re getting is incorrect or out of date. “MapMuse devotes significant resources each October to ensuring that the maps are accurate,” says Pilon. “The last thing we want is for a bunch of kids in Yo Gabba Gabba costumes showing up at Sigma Pi’s Hallowasted Slambash and, God forbid, getting into the Jello shots.” While MapMuse mines most of the data in-house, users are encouraged to suggest edits, additions, and deletions to each map. Businesses and event organizers are also permitted to add their listings free of charge. “We’ve gotten a lot of new submissions this year, which we're sincerely fangful for,” puns Pilon with a small, self-satisfied chuckle.
