Participants to develop revolutionary projects with the help of local business experts while competing for more than $10,000 in prizes.

Sunday October 28, Cohab, Shreveport-Bossier’s non-profit creative workspace will be hosting our area’s first “Startup Weekend,” (http://shreveportbossier.startupweekend.org/) a 54 hour celebration of bringing new businesses, products, and innovative ideas to life.
The weekend will kick off Friday, October 26 with a VIP tour of Moonbot Studios, home of the Academy Awarding winning animated short “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.” After the tour, participants will then gather at Cohab to pitch ideas, form teams, and work on projects together along with expert coaches from the area.
During the event, local entrepreneur Stewart Hamel of Hamel Interests will give a presentation on his latest project, Skycar, the highly-anticipated road legal flying car and Linda Biernacki of Fire Tech Systems will talk about her experiences building a company from the ground up.
Then, Sunday evening, teams’ fully conceived projects will be presented to a panel of expert judges who will name one team the winner and two, runners up.
Coaches for the weekend include area lawyers, accountants, business development experts, and marketing specialists, among others, who will help teams develop each project to its fullest potential.
Judges for the event will include Ross Barrett of BVM Capital, John E. Atkins of Atco Investment Company, John F. George, Jr. MD, of G6 Management, Jeff Key from New Tech Computer Systems, Matthew Cameron, Director / Interactive Solutions at CenturyLink, and Rand Falbaum, owner, manager, and mentor to more than 50 companies.
The winning team will receive a prize package with more than $10,000 in goods and services. Prizes include consultation hours with lawyers, accountants, IT experts, web and marketing specialists, business coaching, chamber of commerce memberships, headshots, a promotional video, printing services, and more. Startup Weekend Organizers are encouraging anyone interested in helping create something innovative right here in the Ark La Tex to participate regardless of their experience or area of expertise.
