A Revival in Handled Beer Glasses

Independent catering equipment suppliers, Stephensons, is reporting a return to growth for Handled Dimple Tankard Beer Glasses, having seen a rapid recovery with sales up nearly 350%.

(PRWEB) October 25, 2012

The Handled Dimple Tankard glass arrived in 1948 and eventually drove out the ‘fluted’ glass, as customers believed amber beers look better in dimpled glasses than in straight-side glasses. The tankard is made from tough pressed glass that can withstand clinking and is most commonly used to serve traditional ales.

Henry Stephenson, Managing Director of Stephensons, commented: “We have seen a huge revival in demand for this style of glassware, especially from pubs and bars and “micro” breweries that have managed to prosper in a challenging climate because increased marketing has led to more pub goers quenching a thirst for original beers and cask ales.

“Furthermore we are noticing a rise in orders for the Handled Dimple Tankard, both in pint and ½ pint sizes, from stylish cocktail bars, as bar staff mix new cocktails and look for novel ways to house colourful concoctions, allowing cocktail lovers to enjoy their beverages in a quirky, unique and British style.

“The impact of the brewery revival and cocktail bar orders has been felt at Stephensons. The revival of this retro glass which became near obsolete in the noughties, following a decline from its heyday in the 1960s, is almost certainly tied-in with the current popularity of UK cask-ale brewers and bars looking to create cocktails with distinct presentation.”

Stephensons boasts the largest catering equipment showroom and cash and carry facility in the North. All products from the Stephensons range are available from the website stephensons.com.
