The 4th Annual weSPARK 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk on the Universal Studios Backlot is almost sold out. Thousands of adults and children from the greater Los Angeles community as well as from across the United States are registered to participate. The event will take place 6-11 a.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012. The 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk will begin at 7:45 a.m., and the separate Kids’ Fun Run begins at 9 a.m.
This unique athletic competition offers a spectacular insider view of Hollywood’s historic dream factory. The 10K & 5K courses are configured past legendary movie sets from Jaws, Psycho House, and War of the Worlds as well as backdrops such as New York Street and Spartacus Square. In addition, the family-friendly event includes an expo featuring walk-around characters, face painting, live music, and famed Los Angeles food trucks.
Highlights include:
- Mark L. Walberg from the popular Antiques Roadshow to host
- Special appearance by Max Greenfield, Emmy Award-nominated actor, currently starring in FOX hit comedy New Girl
- Live performance by IM5, backed by “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller, media icon Perez Hilton, and tour director Jamie King
- Live performance of the national anthem by R&B duo VanJess
- Expo appearances by 2012 Stanley Cup Champs L.A. Kings Ice Crew and the ARty LoOn ShOw
“We are overwhelmed by the generous support we’re receiving from sponsors, celebrities, participants and volunteers,” said Nancy Allen, executive director at weSPARK. “The funds raised through this event allow us to continue offering free services that help lessen the pain and stress of those who are affected by cancer.”
The event was founded in 2009 by volunteers who benefited from programs offered by the cancer support center. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event go to the weSPARK Cancer Support Center.
“The turnout for this year’s event is unprecedented,” said Anton Maillie, member of weSPARK Board of Directors and Run/Walk race director. “We’re looking forward to hosting a memorable race and raising funds to support an important cause.”
Online pre-registration is $30 for adults and $15 for kids ages 6-10 and is available through 11:59 PM PST, November 1, 2012, at http://www.wesparkrunwalk.org. Children under 5 are free. Participants are encouraged to form teams with their family, friends and/or colleagues. Each participant receives a finisher medal and event t-shirt.
