A blog post from Digital Marketer Managing Editor Josh Loposer comments on the recent news from Amazon UK regarding value added tax on e-books.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 26, 2012
Digital Marketer’s blog posted a recent article on the news out of Europe, where Amazon is trying to stick publishers with a tax hike on e-books. The story developed from a Guardian article from October, which dispelled details on the topic.
The blog post was written by Digital Marketer’s Managing Editor Josh Loposer, and in it he says “Amazon may be trying to strong arm publishers out of 17% of e-book sales based on a tax that they don’t truly have to pay.”
Loposer adds that Amazon Europe sells nine out of every ten e-books sold to the United Kingdom. The blog psot refers to it as “a virtual monopoly.”
“Publishing deals in the EU are quite different from those in the US and, unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of bureaucracy to navigate,” said Loposer in the post. “If these allegations are accurate — Amazon seems to be playing that fact to its maximum advantage.”
