The field of Health Informatics has grown exponentially in the wake of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, the 2009 law that governs and promotes the adoption of electronic health records and other digital healthcare data. While healthcare providers, insurance companies and other organizations are now collecting and analyzing an overwhelming amount of digital material, few academic healthcare programs exist to prepare the men and women who must manage, secure and use this data to make informed business decisions. Anna Maria College is now one of only three institutions in the nation to offer an online master’s level program specific to Health Informatics, and career opportunities for graduates are expected to be strong.
