Kansas City, Missouri (PRWEB) October 30, 2012
The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) will lead its 14th annual pilgrimage of tradition to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows in Starkenburg, Missouri, from November 1 – 3. http://tinyurl.com/sspx-register
Following the historic Katy Trail, Priests of the SSPX will be joined by Catholic faithful from several Midwestern states for the 1 – 3 day journey, beginning Thursday, November 1 at 11 am, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and ending the evening of Saturday, November 3 in Starkenburg. The bulk of pilgrims are expected to join the pilgrimage Saturday morning in Portland, Missouri, to complete the final 12 miles. In 2011, more than 650 people attended the pilgrimage.
Since 1998, Catholics affiliated with the SSPX have travelled to rural Montgomery County, about 87 miles west of Saint Louis, to continue the traditional pilgrimage to the Shrine where in the mid-1800’s, local German immigrant Catholics erected a white statue of the Mother of God. The statue became known as the “White Lady” because of the white veil which adorned it. http://tinyurl.com/Shrine-History
Pilgrims are invited to participate in the entire event, walking through Tebbetts, Mokane, Portland and Bluffton, to include daily Mass at a designated campsite along the route, or to arrive Saturday morning to complete the spiritual journey with recitation of the Rosary, spiritual hymns, midday Mass at Steamboat Junction, opportunities for confession and a day to enjoy nature in Autumn.
“The annual pilgrimage is a mainstay for our family,” said long time pilgrimage supporter, Joe Spencer. “Our family has made the pilgrimage to Starkenburg eleven of the last thirteen years. It’s been a combination vacation, hiking and camping trip and most importantly, something extra for God. We’re grateful to the SSPX for sponsoring the event and look forward to approaching the shrine this year.”
Seven generations of Catholics have made the pilgrimage to the Shrine and on July 27, 1897, Pope Leo XIII officially granted plenary indulgences to pilgrims who visit the Shrine at certain times and under the usual conditions of a good Confession, reception of Holy Communion, and prayers before the holy image of the Pieta.
Concluding prayers will take place at the Shrine at approximately 6 pm, Saturday evening. http://www.facebook.com/StarkenburgPilgrims
