Wendell, NC, October 31, 2012 –(PR.com)– The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh recently expanded. In April 2012, the Nature Research Center was opened to the public. The 80,000 square foot addition was designed to bring science to the people by allowing visitors to observe scientists at work and provide opportunities to interact with the researchers.
The new Research Center also featured a café and The Museum Store. The store’s designer, Sue Ramsay, of Witty and Associates in Raleigh wanted the finishes of the store to relate to the finishes in the adjacent café and museum lobby.
“Having worked with Unique Concepts in the past, I knew that they were the right company for this project, which required bringing together a variety of unique materials,” said Ramsay. “The resulting desk is beautiful and functional and fits well in the store and the NRC.”
The cash wrap desk showcased several of the materials Unique Concepts uses to provide custom designs. Reclaimed cypress was used as a facing material for a large area of the desk. The desk also features brushed stainless steel, mini glass tiles and quartz for transaction surfaces. The storage behind the desk and the display cabinetry with shelves was made of reclaimed cypress as well.
