Final approval of the sale of Big Bear Lake Marina has been finalized, ushering in a new era for one of the centerpieces of this California mountain community. Real Estate broker Chuck Hurd found that interest in the Big Bear Marina exceeded his expectations, resulting in a sale that will retain all the character, functionality and wonderful attractions of this mainstay, located in beautiful mountain resort. A great place to boat (including numerous slips and boat maintenance services), fish, swim, kayak, jet ski, paddle-board and more, the Big Bear Marina attracts vacationers from the local Southern California area, and beyond.
The marina, known as "Place On The Lake," was named "Percival's Boat Landing" when it was built in 1924. Called "Fogel's Camp" in the 30's, the camping grounds surrounding the marina. The camp featured 17 rustic cabins and a fresh water well that produced "the best water in the world". During the 40's the boating operations were leased to Charlie Stillwell and then bought by Winston Baird who along with his son Bob kept the marina until 1989. The Baird's expanded the marina and built Marina Ace Hardware on the site which is now the current home of the Big Bear Municipal Water District. In 1989 Bob Ransom and Bill Thorne took over the marina and began the transformation of the facility into its present day form.
In 1999 Greg Boll and Alan Sharp became the current owners and continue to modernize, expand and improve the marina, making it the premier marina on Big Bear Lake.
