The UK’s employment levels have increased to a record high.

Official figures have been released showing the UK’s employment rate is at its highest since spring this year, with a record number of people in work. The number of people unemployed from August to September this year dropped significantly by 50,000 leaving the UK with a jobless rate of 7.9%. Employment grew to 29.59 million during these three months, the highest rate of employment growth since records began.
The Office for National Statistics report also shows that part time work grew by 125,000 to around 8.13 million people. However, those who took on part time work because they couldn’t find full time work was also at a record high, with over 1.4 million people stating this as the reason for taking part time work. The report did however discover that youth employment had fallen and self-employment had increased, both important aspects in order to get the UK out of its double dip recession.
