Dr. Lacerna joins TBCC’s team of physicians in the delivery of state-of-the-art, comprehensive cancer care for patients in the Tampa Bay area.

The physicians and staff of Tampa Bay Cancer Center (TBCC) of Tampa are proud to welcome Dr. Mario D. Lacerna, board-certified Radiation Oncologist, to the practice as of October 9th, 2012. Dr. Lacerna’s significant experience in cancer treatment and the use of advanced clinical technology both complements and enhances TBCC’s multidisciplinary approach to radiation therapy.

Dr. Lacerna attended medical school at Ohio State University where he became interested in oncology. He completed his internship and residency in Radiation Oncology at William Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and became a Chief Resident.
Upon completion of his training, he joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor at Albany Medical College, in Albany, New York. While there, he started a prostate brachytherapy program and performed numerous other brachytherapy procedures. In 2000 he joined the faculty at the University of Michigan as a Clinical Assistant Professor. At the University of Michigan he was actively involved in the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy for multiple body sites including prostate cancer and head and neck cancers. He was also extensively involved in the use of concurrent chemotherapy with radiation therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for wound care.
