This week, The Orlando Vacation Store, a lead seller of Orlando vacation packages, announced that The Spectacle of Dancing Lights is close to opening.
It is Disney's Hollywood Studios Christmas event, just as Magic Kingdom has Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
The display will run from November 9, 2012 to January 4, 2013.
What began as a family tradition from Little Rock Arkansas has become a major holiday attraction at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Jennings Osborne first began decorating his house for his daughter, and when his house wasn’t big enough to hold his decorations, he purchased the two adjacent neighbor’s houses as well.
TOVS says: “The Osborne family’s dedication to the Holiday spirit caught the attention of the Disney World Park, Hollywood Studios. In 1995, the park bought Jennings’ decorations and recreated his display inside the park for guests to enjoy. Today, The Spectacle of Lights includes 5 million lights, 32 miles of extension cables, 66 snow machines, 100 gallons of snow fluid (a night) and 43 hidden Mickeys.”
The spectacle is just that. It is an amazing display that inspires families each year to come together and decorate their own homes, or simply share in the decorations of others. It is an expression of joy. TOVS explained the process, saying: “The dancing of the lights occurs every ten to fifteen minutes. Every single building, door, wreath and lamppost is covered in dancing lights. Thanks to over 400 dimmers programmed by electronic geniuses, every single light can be controlled and synchronized. Unlike the unappreciative neighbors of Arkansas, guests flock every year to the back lot at Hollywood Studios to be part of the magic. Surely, Jennings Osborne is proud of what his Christmas decorations have become.”
Originally a non-moving display the spectacle was modified in 2006. It was altered to include choreographed dimming and dancing of the lights, as well as a Christmas Soundtrack by the Tran-Siberian Orchestra.
The spectacle is included in the price of admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and does not require a separate ticket or additional fees.
