A recent study has revealed that men appear to be able to hear better at parties than women.

Through research from the Neurological Clinic of the University Hospital and the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, both in Germany, it has emerged that men are more capable of following a conversation amidst noisy surroundings than their female counterparts. Researchers conducted an experiment where participants were exposed to a variety of sounds and asked to specify the location of the source of the sound. The results demonstrated that men far outperformed women, thanks to more highly developed auto-spacial abilities.
It is generally agreed that the ability to separate relevant sounds from background noise dates back to the early days of human evolution.
Separate research, conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine may also explain why men appear to be better at the skill. This discovered that men only listen with one side of their brains whilst women rely on both.
