Healthy Cities: Healthy Women Conference Presented by the University of Pennsylvania Explores Impact of Urban Environments on Women’s Health

Los Angeles, CA, November 13, 2012 –(PR.com)– Who: Halle Berry, Academy Award-winning actress and activist; Jonathan Fielding, Director, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and Health Officer, Los Angeles County; Afaf I. Meleis, Dean of Penn’s School of Nursing; and Robert K. Ross, President and CEO of the California Endowment.

Event will also feature representatives from local non-profit organizations. Those scheduled to participate include: American Red Cross, Girls and Gangs, I AM THAT GIRL, Inner-City Arts, Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, L.A. Family Housing, Minds Matter LA, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, and Union Station Homeless Services.

What: Event will highlight issues including trafficking and slavery, urban domestic violence, food security and availability, access to community-based health care services, urban healthy living, safe neighborhoods, empowering women and designing cities with a gender perspective.

Where: Healthy Cities: Healthy Women Conference at the Loews Hollywood Hotel, 1755 N. Highland Avenue, Hollywood CA

Why: The majority of the world's population now lives in cities and the numbers are increasing. Women and girls make up half of that urban population and suffer unique challenges in living healthy lives in urban environments. They also have an extraordinarily unique and powerful role in positively influencing the health of their children, families and communities.
