Austin, TX (PRWEB) November 17, 2012

Austin Technology Incubator (ATI), a unit of the IC2 Institute of The University of Texas at Austin (UT) and The University of Texas at Austin’s Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG), today congratulated Toopher, http://toopher.com, for winning the Mobile Monday Austin Startup Showcase. On October 26, as part of the 10th annual Texas Wireless Summit (TWS), hosted by both ATI and WNCG, 13 Austin area wireless start up companies presented their businesses to a panel of six judges, as well as all TWS attendees as part of the interactive showcase of innovative mobile applications.

The 13 Startup Showcase companies were judged on Originality, Impact, Maturity and Business Model. Judges included: Brian Grigsby, Corsa Ventures; Maria Ocampo, Collider Media; Rick Orr, Tabbedout; and C. Enrique Ortiz, Shango.

Toopher, http://toopher.com, was announced as the winner on the TWS stage as part of the day’s agenda. Toopher has developed a breakthrough technology for automated authentication which uses the location based technology of your smart phone to prevent online fraud and identity theft without having to even take your phone out of your pocket. Its mobile app takes advantage of the device nearly always with you –your smart phone – to use its location-awareness for authentication.

“We’re honored to have been selected from such a great pool of innovative companies; we’re always impressed by the quality of the start-ups in Austin. This year has been incredible, and while we still have a few surprises up our sleeves, we’re even more excited about what’s ahead of us in 2013 and beyond.”

Runners up included DrawMD and Wheel InnovationZ tied for second place:

  • DrawMD / Visual Health, http://escalation-point.com, Escalation Point innovates health care by helping you conceive, manage, market and deliver your health technology products
  • Wheel InnovationZ, http://wheelinnovationz.com, enterprise mobile application security and management for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Emmoco rounded out the winners, at fourth place:

  • EMMOCO, http://emmoco.com, a mobile application development platform for Embedded Systems

“For 10 years, ATI and WNCG have been so proud to bring together the wireless technology community in Texas,” said Kyle Cox, director of ATI's Wireless and University incubators. “Research is discussed and new innovations are brainstormed. We have found the conversations that happen at TWS truly do contribute to the forward-progress of the wireless industry, in Texas and beyond.”

“In our third year running the Mobile Monday Austin Startup Showcase at TWS, it is great to see such a strong mobile tech presence in Austin. Toopher was our winner this year, but I have to say that 2012 saw many winners in their respective ways – the future of Mobile in Austin is bright,”, said C. Enrique Ortiz, organizer of Mobile Monday Austin.

The 10th annual Texas Wireless Summit also featured executive speakers from companies such as Broadcom, Cisco, Deutsche Bank, Ericsson, Fastback, Inovi, Qualcomm, Rohde & Schwarz. There were also panels on Video over Wireless and on Location Based Services.

TWS continues the tradition of providing a forum for industry leaders to discuss emerging technologies and business models that will shape the industry over the upcoming two to three years. The Summit has direct access to cutting edge research and innovations from industry leaders, investors and startups. The Texas Wireless Summit is a keynote and panel driven discussion that enables the speakers and audience to engage to drive the conversation forward.
