Las Vegas, NV, November 24, 2012 –(PR.com)– Maricela Cornejo, the Boxing Illustrated Novice Middleweight Champion, defended her crown in front of the Combined Artists cameras on November 17th with a third round TKO over a game Terri Rowe.
Cornejo was in charge the entire fight, although Rowe fought valiantly in her pro debut. The title bout took place at the Four Points Sheraton in Sacramento, California. It was an OPP Boxing promotion.
"I have quite a bit of respect for Terri Lowe," said Maricela Cornejo after the fight. "She had a lot of heart and landed some solid blows."
Maricela Cornejo first won her crown with a win over Mia Henderson in Atlanta on August 4th. This was her first title defense.
Fighters with up to five fights contend in the Boxing Illustrated Novice Division. The Intermediate Division is for fighters with 6-10 fights. The Boxing Illustrated Select Division is for fighters with 11-15 fights.
The championships are sponsored by Boxing Illustrated Magazine and Ringside Boxing Equipment.
The next scheduled bout for Maricela is April 9 in Huntington, West Virginia. There was a rematch clause in the Sacramento bout with Terri Lowe. This rematch would take place in late January or early February.
