Dr. McDonald is known all around the world for his accomplishments in the fields of cataract, refractive, and LASIK surgery. He holds the special distinction of being the first ophthalmologist in Arkansas to even perform a LASIK procedure. For over 35 years, he and his team have led the way for many types of eye procedures, and have performed over 30,000 surgeries to date. A true innovator in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. McDonald is recognized worldwide for the discovery and development of CLAPIKS (a method to resolve symptoms due to overdoing/under correction of a LASIK surgery) and his discovery and description of the scotopic ability of Alphagan to limit low light dilation. An adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, he has contributed to articles on monovision and has shared his work and findings at various symposiums around the world. Dr. McDonald completed his medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. After completing a medical/pediatric internship with the University of Alabama, he returned to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to complete a four-year residency in ophthalmology. In 1976, he opened his private practice and has made a name for himself as one of the pioneers in vision correction. He continues to work the University of Arkansas, raising money for them through various charity endeavors.
