New York, NY (PRWEB) July 27, 2012
The official onsales for The Who's 2012-2013 "Quadrophenia Tour" begin on Friday, July 27th. Roger Daltrey and Peter Townshend, the original members of the legendary rock group, The Who, have announced firm plans for this blockbuster tour throughout North America. During their upcoming tour they will perform "Quadrophenia" in its entirety which is an album they did nearly 40 years ago back in 1973. As of presstime, 36 concerts have been scheduled in two separate legs with the Christmas holidays in between. The Who "Quadrophenia Tour" starts on November 1 and it will culminate at the end of February.
The Who originally came from the United Kingdom and were put together 48 years ago by Roger Daltrey in 1964 who was their lead vocalist and played harmonica and guitar. The other surviving original band member, Pete Townshend played guitar, keyboards and vocals and was the primary songwriter for the legendary band. John Entwistle, original bass guitarist who did brass and vocals, passed away in 2002 at age 57. This band was well known for their horrendous live performances which often included unfathomable acts such as destruction of instruments. Over the years The Who sold approximately 100 million records which includes 27 top forty singles in the United Kingdom and United States together, 17 albums in the top ten and 18 Gold, 12 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum awards in just the United States. They became popular quickly in the United Kingdom after they had a run of top ten hit singles that pirate radio stations helped boost for them. The all time favorite "Tommy" which was released in 1969 became the first of many top albums in the United States. The band suffered an unthinkable loss when drummer Keith Moon died in 1978 due to overdosing on a drug that had been prescribed to assist him with the symptoms of alcohol withdrawl. Keith Moon had led a fast and dangerous lifestyle which often included drugs and alcohol. He was known to blow up toilets for kicks and this action ended up being the reason The Who had to stay outside of New York City while on tour because hotels in NYC were fearful he would be up to his childish pranks.
Band members for the The Who 2012-13 tour will be Roger Daltrey as lead singer and guitarist, Peter Townshend at vocals and guitar, Zak Starkey (who is Ringo Starr's son from his first marriage) on the drums, Simon Townshend (guitar and backup vocals), Chris Stainton at the keyboards, Pino Palladino on the bass and Frank Simes as musical director and keyboards and backup vocals. Peter Townshend was the main songwriter of The Who. The official "Quadrophenia Tour" ticket onsale begins at 10:00 a.m. EST Friday morning, July 27th.
Originally The Who was scheduled to perform at the halftime show for the 2010 Super Bowl. Unfortunately, Peter Townshend had been having troubles with hearing so the band had to cancel this exciting opportunity to appear on television in front of millions of worldwide fans. Meanwhile, when Townshend was on the convalescing, he was busy with the creation of the band's "Quadrophenia" box set which was released in the Fall of 2011. Townshend was the main songwriter for The Who during their glory years.
Additionally, the band has produced a documentary called "The Who: Quadrophenia – Can You See the Real Me?" in which the band shows their faithful fans many happenings never seen before such as the late Kevin Moon's (original drummer) collapse onstage during their original tour's first date. The documentary has also included songs from the popular album "Quadrophenia."
The management at Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI advises that they will be happ;y to honor any tickets from the 1979 concert in Rhode Island that was cancelled as a precaution in Rhode Island as a result of a stampede at The Who concert in Cincinnati that killed 11 fans. The concert in Cincy had festival seating (first come first serve) and fans could hear the band playing and thought the concert had began. In reality, the band was only doing a final sound check. Festival seating was not permitted for 25 years in Cincinnati following this tradegy. The Who will visit Providence, Rhode Island on the last day of their tour, February 26, 2013.
