Alaska Apps Launches Safe Driving App for Android

Silent Driver Ensures That Motorists Drive Without Distraction

Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 26, 2012

Alaska Apps, LLC is pleased to announce today’s launch of Silent Driver, a practical new app for Android phones that helps users drive without distraction. The app was designed and built by AppIt Ventures. Silent Driver was created for parents, employers, and those who are committed to being safe drivers.

The idea was conceived by Jim Wojciehowski, a physician’s assistant in Alaska. When seeing teen patients in his clinic, he realized it was next to impossible to get their attention away from their cell phones and answer questions. Then, a teen girl was involved in a hit and run fatality. The investigation found her to be texting while driving and continued to text OMG, OMG while leaving the scene of the accident. After this incident, Wojciehowski wanted to create a way to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

Silent Driver works by blocking all incoming calls and texts when a user is moving faster than 10mph. It also locks the phone so that the user can’t place a text or make a call while driving. The phone allows users to include three safe numbers, so if something happens while the user is moving, they can still call for help. By reducing distractions from smart phones, drivers are free from the temptation to use their phones while operating a vehicle.

Parents and employers have the option to password protect the app on their teenager’s or employee’s phones and set up a password that restricts them from disabling the security feature or deleting the app. In the event that the teenager makes a call while driving, or attempts to delete the app, a warning text will be sent to the parents so that they can re-install the app.

"After the texting hit and run made the news I started paying more attention to teen drivers on my drive to and from work,” said Wojciehowski. “I was shocked how many were texting while driving, many with their phones visible on top of the steering wheel. I wanted to give parents a way to prevent this risky behavior."

The Silent Driver app is currently offered in the Google Play Store and is available for Android phones worldwide.
