Previously only available from domestic U.S. retailers, "More Than a Marathon", the first release from electronic duo Super Public has made its way to stores in Japan, Russia, Germany, Belgium, Italy & the United Kingdom.
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) November 03, 2012
This inaugural release from the Michigan-based electronic duo, Super Public, represents a culmination of ingredients both classic and vanguard. With both members’ resumes touting decades-plus jazz and electronic experience, their reverence and musicality are matched only by the innate futurism of electronic dance music. Awash with vintage synthesizers and classic rhythm machines collected from the many pawn shops of the region, these tracks seamlessly fuse the dynamism and fluidity of live performance with the insistence and precision of dedicated machinery. ‘More Than a Marathon’ was meticulously written and recorded in Metro Detroit, 2010-2011.
"Great chord structures" – Gerald Mitchell (Los Hermanos/Underground Resistance)
"Flowing synth work…" "Stunning craftsmanship." -Technique Records, Japan
A sheet music book for Prince’s “Purple Rain” spotted in the back of Cimbalik’s Chevrolet during a session at a mutual friend’s studio was the genesis of Super Public. Impressed by each other’s knowledge and skill, it was only a matter of weeks before a TR-707 drum machine and analog synthesizer were passed back and forth, crafting patterns and textures over the course of the following month. As the songs matured, it became clear that both artists drew inspiration from the unique geography and anthropology of Southeastern Michigan. An afternoon spent on Belle Isle watching sheets of ice flow from Lake St. Clair down the Detroit River typified a prelude to a particularly fruitful late night recording session.
Side one is comprised of groove-heavy synth funk reminiscent of DMX Krew augmented by dreamy string-laden rhythms suggestive of standout tracks on Carl Craig's 'More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art'. The flipside aims far further into the future with deep, dance floor friendly tracks sonically reminiscent of the Transmat catalog with an injection of uptempo tech-house swing elements evocative of Akufen’s ‘Skidoos’, making this a natural on dance floors from Detroit to New York to Paris and Berlin, where Super Public will spend summer 2012 writing and recording the follow up to ‘More Than a Marathon’. Spring New York and Europe dates to be announced this winter.
