Hollywood Comes Knocking: New Documentary “HIGH GROUND” Partners with Fifty-Five Veterans Organizations

Producer Don Hahn's ("The Lion King," "Frankenweenie") latest film takes the extra step to provide a resource list of organizations for transitioning military veterans and families.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 03, 2012

HIGH GROUND, a new documentary about military veterans, is partnering with fifty-five veterans' organizations to provide a resource list for service members making their way from battlefield to home. HIGH GROUND follows the journey of eleven wounded warriors and one Gold Star Mother as they climb the 20,000 foot Himalayan giant, Mt. Lobuche. As part of the 2010 expedition to Nepal organized by World T.E.A.M. Sports, the veterans embarked on the trip with wounds including PTSD, TBI, blindness and three with prosthetic legs. The veterans and the Gold Star Mother recounted their wartime experiences as they found teamwork, friendship and healing on the journey. The film was produced by Don Hahn and directed by adventure filmmaker Michael Brown.

The HIGH GROUND Resource Partner List offers a variety of programs. Some organizations offer general assistance, job advisement, and counseling. Others were chosen specifically because they offer sports, outdoor recreational, service projects, and arts programs for military veterans and their families.

“We’re proud to highlight the hard work these organizations do for veterans in their communities,” said Producer Don Hahn. “Because of their hard work, they make the transition a lot smoother.” Hahn said the roster of organizations offer a diversity of choices for veterans. “Choice is essential. It's what our veterans fought for.”

HIGH GROUND's largest partner is The VFW, found throughout the U.S. The film also partners with organizations that focus regionally, such as Military Ovation, which serves the Dakotas, and StandUp Paddleboard for Vets, started by a retired Navy Seal in Panama City Florida. They also range in interest for fishing, mountain climbing, horseback riding, to writing programs. Most of the organizations were started by veterans for veterans.

Several have previewed the film to audiences in Arizona, Texas and Florida through the new film crowd sourcing venture Tugg for Films. In addition, the film has played for the Wounded Warrior Battalions, and student veterans and ROTC Battalions at colleges and universities.

The High Ground Resource Partner List may be found at their website http://highgroundmovie.com, and clicking on "Partners." High Ground opens in theaters on Friday November 2, with a roll out to DVD and Video On Demand on November 6. The film will be available through major retailers WalMart and Best Buy, as well as on Amazon, iTunes, and Netflix.
