REDCOM’s HDX and SLICE® 2100™ softswitches replace legacy network providing resilient, cost effective Next Generation Network.

Victor, NY (PRWEB) November 07, 2012

With the flick of a switch, Telecom Cook Islands (TCI) decommissioned their legacy NEAX 61 exchange, completing a network transformation to NGN based on REDCOM’s HDX and SLICE 2100 International/IP/End Office softswitches.

With the network transformation, TCI enjoys a distributed, resilient network employing an IP/fiber backbone on the main island of Rarotonga driven by REDCOM’s HDX. The HDX, using REDCOM’s ClusterNet technology, allows the softswitch to be geographically distributed to two locations on Rarotonga, providing two points of call control, satellite access, and business connectivity.

On outer islands, independent yet integrated REDCOM SLICE 2100s provide remote populations the same services and features as found on Rarotonga and technology-leading service areas world-wide.

In addition to a concern for resilience against net-based attacks and natural disasters, TCI also considered cost. “Other options required service agreements that triple the actual price of the softswitch in ten years” said Jules Maher, CEO of Telecom Cook Islands. “With REDCOM’s No Maintenance Agreement policy, there is no scheduled expense for service. And, since the REDCOM HDX draws so little power, it is expected to pay for itself in that same period. So, from the financial position, the REDCOM solution by far made the best sense. Going with the REDCOM platforms provided the greatest value.”

“TCI’s engineering staff started with a vision of how a disaster-resistant, powerful and flexible IP-based network should be designed. Then they implemented that vision in a manner that was technically, practically, and fiscally responsible. TCI now has the banner network, leading all others in the Asia/Pacific region,” said Charles DeRoller, Director of International Sales and Marketing, REDCOM.
