The Association of Educational Publishers' CEO, Charlene Gaynor received the Female Executive of the Year bronze medal at the Stevie Awards for Women in Business competition. As a winner in the Government or Non-Profit/Up to 2,500 Employees category, Ms. Gaynor was selected for her success in expanding the AEP’s programs and initiatives that support the learning resource community.
“It is an honor to receive this award” said Ms. Gaynor. “In addition to teachers and schools, learning resources are the third pillar of education. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the AEP’s important work with fellow business leaders.”
The awards ceremony, which took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, was hosted by Michael Gallagher, President of the Stevie Awards. Over 340 executives from 17 countries were in attendance. “In all our years of organizing these awards, this years’ crop of finalists has been the best yet”, said Mr. Gallagher. “These are the highest scores we’ve seen across the board”.
Charlene joined AEP in 1997 as Executive Director and was named CEO in 2006. During the past year, she has co-led the Learning Resource Metadata Initiative (LRMI), a break-through technology project to create a common standard for identifying learning resources on the web; continued a collaboration with the U.S. Commercial Service and the Frankfurt Book Fair to help small- to mid-size publishers of English-language learning materials gain ready access to emerging international markets; and guided AEP's Innovation Through Inclusion program, an initiative to attract a talented industry work force that reflects the cultural diversity of the students it serves.
