San Diego’s Avant Palette Custom Faux Finishes Provides A Facelift To Del Mar Racetrack

“Where the Surf Meets the Turf” Has Never Looked Better

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2012

Avant Palette (http://www.avant-palette.com), the West’s premier faux finishing and mural company, announced today that it has completed its second project for the State of California, repairing and restoring the faux finishes throughout grandstands at the renowned Del Mar Racetrack. In addition to meticulously maintaining the look and feel of the historic facility, the Avant Palette team worked with great efficiency, finishing the project weeks before the deadline set by racetrack management.

“It was a great honor to be able to work with the Del Mar Race Track Authority at this iconic place, especially as it celebrates its 75th anniversary,” said Margarette Johannes, principal of Avant Palette. “We maintain the same standards of excellence regardless of whether our jobs are in private homes or public facilities, but it’s exciting to know that our faux finishes will be enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of racetrack visitors over many years.”

Johannes and her team were sensitive to maintaining the architecture and style of the finishes in the Turf Club, other cafes, concessions, entrances, and elsewhere throughout the heavily trafficked grandstand. The facility was built in the ‘30s and renovated in the ‘90s.

The processes used to restore the faux finishes included custom painting and plastering, texturing, restoring murals, and applying sealant protection. One aspect of the project that was especially challenging was matching the existing faux finishes to ensure the desired outcome.

Avant Palette used some of those same techniques to complete its first project under the California State Parks umbrella, the creation of a mural at the Palm Springs Aerial Tram’s Mountain Station Interpretive Center, and received similar praise from the client.

“Knowing how important it is to maintain the quality presentation of the grandstand, we sought to engage a qualified company that could also meet our budget limitations,” said Gary Reist, chief of Plant Operations, Del Mar Fairgrounds and Racetrack. “Avant Palette exceeded our expectations by providing us with quality results ahead of schedule.”
